A Brotherhood of Collaboration
We aren’t a traditional “frontman and backing band” unit. The East & The Crow is a brotherhood of five individuals—Brian Wright, Ralph Tobias, Peter G, Dr. George Woods, and Lee Dykes—who have traded typical band ego for a culture of deep support and radical collaboration. We operate as a single unit where every member is encouraged to challenge arrangements, offer feedback, and push the music into unexpected territory. Whether we are arguing over a bridge transition or celebrating a breakthrough in our Portland practice space, the goal is always a sound that is authentic, intentional, and entirely our own.
The “Human-First” Laboratory
Our songwriting is a constant, living cycle that evolves from a shared text thread to the festival stage:
- Reality and Alternate Timelines: Brian’s lyrical process is an act of persistent self-analysis. While some songs explore “alternate timelines,” many are rooted in the raw reality of the human experience—navigating a breakup, the overwhelming pressure of professional life, or the paralyzing fear of losing a child. These songs, like “Breakdown” and “Lost Boy,” are how we process the weight of the world.
- Spontaneous Inspiration: A song can start anywhere—a rhythmic strum during a break, a new drumbeat from Pete, or a digital fragment shared in a late-night text. While Ralph is a prolific source of ideas, every member contributes initial licks and concepts, often playing outside our primary instruments to find a new “spark”.
- Structural Maps: We don’t give a song our full focus until it has a name and a Lyric & Chord Chart. These aren’t formal sheet music; they are our roadmap for original songs that only we know. Combined with rehearsal recordings, these maps allow us to stop chasing “audio clips” and start making real progress.
- Road-Tested Evolution: We believe music shouldn’t be settled in a vacuum. We take early versions of songs to local jam nights and series like Bay Jammin’ or Waters Edge to see how they breathe in front of a South Texas audience. Those live reactions dictate our final solos, vocal harmonies, and drum parts.
The Current Unit
Brian Wright (Lead Vocals & Lyrics)

The Analyst. A South Texas native obsessed with the power of lyrics, Brian is a collector of stories and guitars. He constantly analyzes his own heart and reality to find the universal friction in the human experience, writing from the depths of both personal loss and professional exhaustion.
Lee Dykes (Bass, Keys, & Arrangement)
The Architect. Hailing from Vermont, Lee is the resident “dual-wielder,” often playing bass and keys simultaneously. A programmer by trade, he uses his technical background to deconstruct rehearsal recordings into the structural maps that anchor the band.

Ralph Tobias (Lead Guitar)

The Historian. Carrying a deep respect for the legends of guitar, Ralph cites Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana, Ace Frehley, Dan Fogelberg, and Eric Clapton as primary influences, though his ultimate hero is his father. He is a student of the craft who remains in a state of constant experimentation, frequently trading pedals and guitars to find new sonic textures and the “spark” for our next collective exploration.
Dr. George Woods (Rhythm Guitar)
The Precision. A mainstay of the Corpus Christi music scene and a Department Head of Kinesiology, George brings academic discipline to his high-end gear choices and his precise, powerful contributions to the rhythm section.
Peter G (Drums)
The Heartbeat. A Corpus Christi native who has worked every side of the stage from roadie to sound engineer, Peter is a versatile multi-instrumentalist with roots spanning from Tejano to Metal. As the band’s human heartbeat, he brings a gear-head’s obsession and a lifetime of high-energy performance to every rehearsal and stage.
The Legacy
Wade Capps (Founding Member): As a co-founder, Wade’s creative influence remains woven into our DNA. He remains a collaborator and contributor to our upcoming 2026 releases.
